The goal of Mission Teams

GLO Mission Teams are looking for people with a personal faith in Jesus Christ. People who have a desire to serve Him and share their faith with others in order to see others saved and grow in their own personal relationship with Jesus. Everyday we are God’s representatives and equally so during a mission team. Therefore we need to consider our responsibilities and what is expected of us as we live for Him and serve Him in Mission.

Please follow these simple guidelines of how best to PREPARE, SERVE and RETURN, to make your GLO Mission Team a great and worthwhile experience. Please, remember to:

  • Pray: Spend time with God in prayer before the team starts. If possible, raise prayer support with family, friends and your church also and ask them to continue praying for you as you go on the team
  • Acquaint yourself with the local customs and culture of the country you will be visiting and please be aware of what is expected of you in terms of dress and behaviour in order to avoid offence
  • Learn a few helpful, polite phrases to help build new relationships
  • Consider contacting fellow team members (details from the GLO admin office)
  • Contact the team leader – they may wish for you to bring resources to help in outreach or prepare for special events. Gather possible dramas, quizzes, games, activities etc that could be used.
  • Think about your ‘personal testimony’ (ie. how you became a Christian, what Christ means to you and what He’s doing in your own life today) as you will have the opportunity to share your faith with others
  • Read the FAQ!

FAQ

The minimum age for foreign GLO Mission Trips is normally 18 and 16 for the UK.

1. A quick checklist

2. Serve as you go

As Servants

  • Respect other team members.
  • Have a willing, humble and co-operative spirit, living and working together as part of a team.
  • Have a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Acknowledge that the team leader has ultimate responsibility for you.
  • Please be willing to work under his leadership, supervision and his direction, to accept his decision and seek approval for any
activities outside the official organised programme.

As Ambassadors

  • For GLO and all it represents as a vehicle for spreading the Gospel
  • For the resident missionaries and local church who will still be in place after the team has gone. It is all too easy to undo years of faithful work in two weeks by selfish or thoughtless actions.
  • In this regard, exclusive friendships with members of the opposite sex are not encouraged during vacation teams.
  • Most importantly for the Lord Himself – your attitude towards fellow team members and those you are hoping to reach should be that of Christ

As Guests

  • Respect your hosts and help out wherever you can
  • Don’t over react to unfamiliar food or drink offered during the team. It has been graciously prepared so be sensitive and thankful
  • Respect the accommodation and property of the hosts and fellow team members

3. Return: home you go
