Ready for a gap year?
FirstServe is a unique Christian gap-year programme for 18-30 year olds, designed to bring you closer to God and spark a vision for serving him across the world.
Established in 2010, FirstServe has been created as a stepping stone programme that will develop and prepare young people for future service, whether at home or on the mission field.
We ensure that each FirstServer is cared for and supported throughout the FirstServe gap year programme. Programme supervisors will be assigned at each step of the way, and the FirstServe coordination team are on hand if the young person has any questions or needs additional support. We also believe it is vitally important to create a lasting partnership with the FirstServer’s home church and work with them to support the young person.
FirstServe has been an incredible journey for me. From the moment I stepped into Tilsley College alongside my fellow FirstServer, Sophia, I knew it was going to be a life-changing experience. Joining the Certificate year students in classes, I found immense joy in delving into Old Testament studies and being part of the vibrant college community. The friendships I made there were truly a blessing.
Throughout the journey, my mentor at Tilsley played a pivotal role in guiding and supporting me. There was a phase where I struggled to maintain my personal devotions and one-on-one time with God, but the pastoral care lead at Tilsley helped me find my way back on track. Their encouragement and support were invaluable.
